Bhubaneswar: On charges of attacking police personnel during an arrest attempt, a woman and her son were held and sent to Nimapada jail in Puri district.

The incident occurred in Haripur village under the Nimapada block when a team from Balanga police station went to apprehend the youth in connection with a cyber fraud case involving more than ₹80,000, based on a complaint filed by a local resident.

During the operation, the accused and his mother allegedly assaulted the police team, leaving the officer-in-charge of Balanga police station, a woman constable, and a Home Guard injured.

Senior officials, including Puri Additional SP Sachin Patel and Pipili SDPO Debashish Mishra, reviewed the situation at Balanga police station following the incident.

Police said the woman has multiple cases registered against her in connection with assault and violent activities in 2022 and 2024. With the latest case, the number of cases against the mother-son duo has risen to more than four. Fresh cases have also been registered under relevant sections (179/26 and 164/26).

Following their arrest, the duo was produced before the Nimapada court. After their bail pleas were rejected, the court remanded them to judicial custody and sent them to Nimapada jail.
