Sambalpur: The Sambalpur Police have arrested five persons for allegedly circulating an obscene video involving a Sankirtan singer, officials said on Thursday.

The accused have been identified as Raja Badhei, Rabindriya Seth, Sushanta Bagh and Sambhu Prasad Pradhan from Sambalpur district, and Deepak Mahar from Subarnapur district. According to police sources, the accused had shared a video showing intimate moments of the young woman, which later went viral on social media platforms.

Following the incident, a case was registered at the Cyber Crime and Economic Offences Police Station in Sambalpur, after which an investigation was launched. The accused have been booked under Sections 78, 79 and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 67 and 67(A) of the Information Technology Act.

The five accused were forwarded to court following the arrests.

Police have also seized five mobile phones allegedly used to record and circulate the video.

Authorities said a detailed investigation is underway to determine the circumstances in which the video was recorded and shared, and to identify any other persons involved in the case.
