Maniabandha (Kataka): A 32-year-old man, identified as Srikanta Jena, the husband of the Sarpanch of Santarabadi under Maniabandha police limits in Odisha's Kataka (formerly Cuttack) district, sustained critical injuries after being shot by unidentified assailants on Friday.
The incident took place near Kuanpal Chhak under the jurisdiction of Maniabandha police station, when Srikanta Jena, also known as Kalia Jena was reportedly on his way to a salon with his young son for a haircut.
According to preliminary information, four unidentified youths arrived on two motorcycles and opened fire at him without warning. The attackers allegedly fired four rounds before fleeing the scene.
Jena suffered bullet injuries to his chest and leg and collapsed at the scene. He was initially rushed to a nearby hospital before being referred to the SCB Medical College and Hospital, as his condition was reported to be critical.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear. However, police suspect that the shooting may have been linked to previous enmity. Investigators are examining all possible angles.
According to sources, Kalia Jena is stated to have multiple criminal cases registered against him at the local police station. However, police have not officially linked those cases to Friday's shooting, and the exact motive behind the attack is yet to be established.
Police personnel reached the spot soon after the incident and launched an investigation. Officers are examining CCTV footage, questioning witnesses, and making efforts to identify and trace the four accused who fled after the attack.
