Bhubaneswar: In broad daylight, three persons were injured after being attacked by six miscreants in the Baranga area under the Cuttack Urban Police District on Tuesday.

According to reports, Kanhu Dalei was standing near a ‘dahibara’ stall in the forenoon when six bike-borne attackers suddenly arrived and assaulted him with a sword. The stall owner and a nearby paan shop owner rushed to his aid but were also attacked in the process. The assailants fled the scene soon after.

Dalei suffered grievous injuries to his lower abdomen, while Anil Kumar Lenka and Ranjan Rout, who tried to rescue him, also sustained critical injuries. All three have been admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

The severity of the attack was evident from deep cut marks found on utensils at the ‘dahibara’ stall.

On being informed, Baranga Police reached the spot and launched an investigation. The ACP of Zone 4 also visited the scene.

Based on CCTV footage from the area, police have reportedly identified the attackers and detained two suspects. A manhunt has been launched to nab the remaining accused.

The motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, though past enmity is suspected.
