Berhampur: Two days after a youth and his partner were attacked near Giri Road in Berhampur, police on Wednesday arrested two accused and produced them before a court.
The arrests were made following a complaint filed on May 19 by Amulya Kumari Rath, mother of the victim, Umesh Rath. Based on the complaint, a case was registered at the Berhampur Police Station and an investigation was launched.
In her complaint, she alleged her son and his would-be wife, Gayatri Patra, were assaulted by five persons. Umesh sustained fractures in both legs, while Gayatri suffered minor injuries while trying to protect him.
Police said preliminary investigation indicates the attack was carried out due to previous enmity. The accused had allegedly conspired and executed the assault on May 18 before fleeing the spot.
The arrested accused have been identified as Raj Malhotra and Lingaraj Samal alias Rinku, both residents of Berhampur.
Police seized two scooty vehicles, a bamboo lathi, and an Android mobile phone from their possession.
Sources said multiple cases are pending against the two accused at different police stations.
Following their arrest, both were forwarded to the court. Efforts are underway to nab the remaining accused.
