Balasore/Baripada: On charges of murdering a private school hostel warden and assaulting a headmistress, the Mayurbhanj police have detained two persons.

Acting on a tip-off, a team from Baisinga Police Station conducted a late-night raid in the Chandipur area of Balasore district. Following the operation, Chiranjibi Behera and Ranendra Pratap Samal, both from the Kalama area, were taken into custody for questioning.

The incident occurred on March 20 at around 10 pm near Gadadeulia Chhak on National Highway-18. Sanyasi Das of Dhanapal village, who worked as the hostel warden at Arabinda Purnanga Siksha Kendra, and headmistress Kadambini Rout were attacked by a group of miscreants while travelling on a motorcycle to Kalama to meet the headmistress’s brother.

Das succumbed to injuries on the spot after being attacked with a dagger, while Rout sustained critical injuries. She was initially admitted to a hospital in Remuna but was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital as her condition deteriorated.

Police suspect the involvement of more individuals in the crime and have intensified efforts to identify and apprehend all those linked to the attack.
