Mayurbhanj: In a shocking incident, a mother and her eight-year-old daughter were brutally murdered in Mayurbhanj district today afternoon.

The crime took place in the Muktajhari Sahi area of Dakeyipala village, where the victims were allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon, leading to their deaths on the spot. The deceased have been identified as Sitamani Tudu (30) and daughter Jabamani Tudu (8).

Sitmani's husband Chaitanya Tudu was reportedly away from house when the incident happened. When he returned home, the room was locked from inside. Chaitanya reportedly peered through the skylight and found the mother and daughter lying in a pool of blood. He borke open the room's door. His daughter's throat was slit and wife's body was lying nearby.

After receiving information, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nabakrishna Nayak, along with Mahuldiha IIC Tushar Nayak, rushed to the scene and launched an investigation into the incident.

Police have begun a detailed probe to ascertain the motive behind the double murder and identify those responsible. Further details are awaited.
