Koraput: On charges of demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹4,000, the Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday apprehended a woman Revenue Inspector (RI).

The accused, Sailabala Naik, posted as RI of Kosaguda RI Circle, was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe from a beneficiary of the Matsya Pokhari Yojana under the Fisheries Department of the Odisha government. She had allegedly demanded the money for issuing trace maps in favour of the beneficiary and others.

According to Vigilance officials, beneficiaries had applied for subsidy assistance under the Matsya Pokhari Yojana for fish farming activities. To avail the subsidy, they were required to submit trace maps of their respective farm ponds to the Fisheries Department.

The applicants had already applied for copies of the trace maps of their lands where ponds had been excavated. However, Naik allegedly demanded ₹4,000 from one of the beneficiaries to issue the required documents.

Left with no option, the beneficiary reported the matter to Vigilance authorities. Acting on the complaint, a Vigilance team laid a trap and caught Naik while she was accepting the bribe.

The entire bribe amount of ₹4,000 was recovered and seized from her possession.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches are being conducted at two locations linked to Naik on suspicion of possession of assets disproportionate to her known sources of income.

In this connection, Koraput Vigilance P.S. Case No. 10/2026 has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation is underway.
