Bhadrak: In a disturbing incident during the auspicious Raja festival, a youth allegedly murdered his mother over a family dispute in Bhadrak district on Sunday forenoon.

The incident took place in Jirina Gudia Sahi under Bant police limits. The deceased has been identified as Mamata Sahu. Her son, Pritam Sahu, has been accused of committing the crime.

According to preliminary reports, the murder is suspected to have stemmed from a domestic dispute. However, the exact reason behind the youth’s extreme act is yet to be ascertained.

On being informed, Bant police rushed to the spot and detained the accused. The weapon used in the crime, reportedly an axe, has also been seized. The accused was later arrested and taken to the police station for questioning.

The gruesome incident has left residents of the area in a state of shock and grief, especially as it occurred during the festive period.

Police have launched a detailed investigation to determine the exact circumstances leading to the crime and to ascertain whether any other factors were involved.
