Dhamra: India successfully test-fired ‘Agni Prime’ missile from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast at around 9.30 am today.

This is the third successful test of Agni Prime missile. Senior officials of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) were present during the missile test.

The missile was test-fired from a mobile launcher at the island. The solid-fuelled missile met all the objectives, sources said.

Agni Prime is nuclear-capable new generation ballistic missile and it has a maximum range of 2,000 km. This surface-to-surface missile is the advanced variant of Agni class of missiles, sources added.

Agni Prime missile is much lighter than Agni 3 missile and it has new guidance and propulsion systems. It can be launched from road or rail.

The first test of Agni Prime was conducted in June last year while the second test was carried out six months later.
