2 arrested for selling beef in Odisha’s Koraput; 13 customers detained

Bhubaneswar: The police arrested two persons on charges of selling beef in Odisha’s Koraput district in two separate raids on Sunday.

The cops have also detained at least 13 customers in this regard.

A person, identified as Madhab Bhoi of Chhapara village, was allegedly selling beef at Chindri under Koraput Town police limits.

On a tip-off, the police raided Bhoi’s shop in the wee hours of Sunday and arrested him for illegal slaughter of cows. However, Bhoi’s aide Rahim managed to escape.

Similarly, the cops have arrested a woman, identified as Hamida Biwi, for selling beef in Koraput old town area. Hamida and her son Abdul Sheikh were selling beef at a shop near the rail tracks at Chindri. Abdul managed to escape before the police raid, reports said.

The police have registered two separate cases in this regard and launched a probe.

“We have also detained 13 customers who gathered at the two shops to buy beef,” said a police officer.
