Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance on Thursday arrested Rajesh Chandra Mohanty, Additional Chief Engineer (Dam Safety), on charges of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

According to Vigilance officials, Mohanty will be produced before the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, in Cuttack later in the day.

The arrest follows extensive searches conducted at properties linked to the senior engineer. During the raids, officials allegedly unearthed significant assets that he failed to account for satisfactorily.

The seized assets include a multi-storeyed residential building in Bhubaneswar, a farmhouse with a double-storeyed structure spread over approximately 4,000 sq ft on 1.71 acres of land, and eight plots. In addition, deposits exceeding Rs 1.81 crore, cash worth Rs 6.23 lakh, around 350 grams of gold, and two four-wheelers were also detected.

On the basis of the findings, a case has been registered at Cuttack Vigilance Police Station under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2018.

Vigilance officials said further investigation into the matter is underway.
