Bhubaneswar: An American filmmaker has praised India’s healthcare system after receiving free treatment at a rural government hospital in Odisha during his trip to the state.

Mike Noone, an international filmmaker, shared his experience in an Instagram video after falling ill on the fifth day of his India trip. He said he suffered from repeated vomiting for nearly 12 hours and was eventually taken to a nearby rural hospital.

Noone clarified that his illness was not caused by food poisoning. Instead, he said he had overeaten after enjoying local food during his trip.

“The food was so good, I ate too much of it,” he said jokingly, adding that he had to face the consequences of his overindulgence.

During his treatment, Noone said he was given an IV, anti-nausea medication and two injections. Although he started feeling better, he became concerned about the medical bill, recalling the high cost of healthcare in the United States.

However, he was surprised when he was not charged anything for the treatment at the government hospital.

Comparing the experience with the US healthcare system, Noone said the same treatment in America could have cost him thousands of dollars. He praised the affordability of healthcare in India.

"These damn socialists didn’t charge me one cent," he mentioned in the video.
