Nabarangpur: Continuous rainfall has triggered a rise in water levels in the Indravati and Bhaskel rivers in Kosagumuda block of Odisha's Nabarangpur district, leaving around 1,500 people stranded in two riverside villages.

The residents of Kantasharguda and Ghatwaliguda have been cut off from the outside world following a sharp rise in the Indravati River water level last night.

Villagers said that no administrative officials had reached the affected areas so far. They have expressed concern over the situation as the rising water has disrupted communication with the two villages.

The problem reportedly recurs every year during heavy rainfall when the Indravati River swells. The two villages become isolated from the rest of the area, causing significant hardship for residents.

Villagers are also worried about damage to their crops if the water level does not recede soon. They said crop losses during such flooding severely affect their livelihoods and weaken the economic condition of local families.

Residents have urged the administration to take immediate steps to assess the situation, provide assistance and ensure connectivity to the affected villages.
