Bhubaneswar: Authorities at the Biju Patnaik International Airport have issued a notice to a private real estate firm for allegedly violating prescribed height norms while constructing a multi-storey building near Delta Square in the city.
The action comes amid concerns that the under-construction building exceeds the permitted height limit by approximately 11 metres. As a result, the Obstacle Clearance Altitude (OCA) has reportedly been increased by 26 metres, raising serious aviation safety concerns.
The building is located around 3.5 km from the airport, making the issue particularly sensitive from a flight safety standpoint.
Officials said copies of the notice have also been sent to key agencies, including the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the Urban Development Department, the Transport Department, the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), and the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Reacting to the development, Airport Director Prasanna Pradhan stated the move is part of a routine regulatory process.
He explained within a 20-km radius of the airport, the height of any structure or tree is strictly regulated and requires a No Objection Certificate (NOC).
“In case of any violation of prescribed norms, notices are issued to the concerned entity,” he added.
