Bhubaneswar: A Centre of Excellence in Green Energy will be set up at the World Skill Centre (WSC) in the Odisha capital here.

The World Skill Center (WSC), Bhubaneswar, and the Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC) on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo. The proposed Centre of Excellence will be established with CSR support from OHPC and will provide industry-oriented, hands-on training to youth in solar energy technologies and emerging areas associated with the renewable energy sector.

The centre will incorporate several cutting-edge technologies, including Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), PLC-SCADA systems, digital twins and predictive maintenance. It will also feature modern infrastructure such as rooftop solar systems, floating solar systems and solar tracker technology, enabling trainees to gain practical exposure to contemporary solar power applications.

The initiative aims to prepare Odisha’s youth with skills aligned with the evolving requirements of the renewable energy industry and help them become self-reliant. The centre is expected to train around 300 young men and women every year for globally relevant professions such as Solar PV Technicians, Operations and Maintenance Technicians, Site Supervisors and Energy Auditors.

The partnership is expected to create wider employment opportunities for young people in Odisha while also encouraging entrepreneurship in the growing green energy sector.

The Centre of Excellence will further strengthen the World Skill Center’s position as a hub for future-oriented skilling, equipping young people with practical and industry-ready competencies in emerging technologies.

The initiative is also expected to contribute to Odisha’s transition towards a greener and more sustainable energy ecosystem while supporting the state’s efforts to develop a skilled workforce for future industries.
