Bhubaneswar: Two youths were allegedly kidnapped in Bhubaneswar and brutally assaulted over allegedly threatening to make a girl student’s video viral on social media.
The Info Valley police have rescued the two and arrested five persons, including the student.
Police rescued the two youths nearly 12 hours after the abduction. The accused have been identified as Pramod Sethi, Debashish Mahapatra, Oscar Nath and Brahma Jena, while the identity of the student has not been disclosed.
According to police sources, the two youths had allegedly threatened to circulate a video of the student on social media a few days ago. The student later informed her friends about the matter, after which they allegedly hatched a plan to abduct the duo.
As per reports, the victims were on their way to an educational institution in the Patrapada area on Monday when a car intercepted them. Before they could react, four youths allegedly came out of the vehicle and attacked them.
After assaulting the two, the accused allegedly forced them into the car and took them to a secluded location, where the duo was tied up inside a house and beaten mercilessly.
Following a complaint lodged by the families of the victims, police registered a case and launched an investigation. Police conducted a late-night raid and rescued the youths.
Efforts are underway to trace and arrest other persons allegedly involved in the kidnapping and assault, police said.
