Berhampur: A 29-year-old woman from Odisha's Brahmapur who allegedly set herself on fire after accusing her father of sexual abuse died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar today.

The woman had suffered critical burn injuries after pouring petrol on herself and setting herself ablaze on Saturday. She was initially admitted to a hospital in Brahmapur before being shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.

The woman had recorded a video before the suicide attempt and shared it on social media. In the video, she accused her 57-year-old father of sexually abusing her over several years and forcing her into prostitution.

The woman, who was married for more than a year and living with her in-laws in Brahmapur 's Nimakhandi area, alleged that the prolonged abuse drove her to take the extreme step.

Acting on the viral video, Nimakhandi police registered a suo motu case and launched an investigation. The accused father was later arrested.

However, the accused denied the allegations, claiming that he had been falsely implicated in the case.

Police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
