Centre extends tenure of retired Odisha cadre IAS officer Saurabh Garg as Statistics Secretary for one year

New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved a one-year extension in the tenure of retired Odisha cadre IAS officer Saurabh Garg as Secretary, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), according to an official notification issued by the Department of Personnel and Training.

The notification stated that Garg's tenure on a contract basis has been extended beyond July 31, 2026, for a further period of one year, up to July 31, 2027, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The extension will be on the existing terms and conditions.

Besides continuing as Secretary of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Garg will also continue to discharge the functions of Secretary to the National Statistics Commission, the notification said.

Saurabh Garg, a 1991-batch IAS officer of the Odisha cadre, had retired from government service and was subsequently appointed as Secretary of the Ministry on a contractual basis.
