Kataka: The Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Chauliaganj Police Station, Beauty Mohanty, was found hanging at her government quarters in Kataka (Cuttack) on Saturday, sending shockwaves through the police department and the local community.
The exact cause of her death is yet to be ascertained. Police have launched an investigation to determine whether it was a case of suicide or if any foul play was involved.
Colleagues alerted after IIC failed to respond to repeated calls
According to police sources, Mohanty's colleagues became concerned after she repeatedly failed to respond to phone calls. A team from Chauliaganj Police Station then went to her official residence.
Despite knocking on the door several times, there was no response from inside. Senior police officers were immediately informed, following which the team entered the quarters and found Mohanty hanging.
The body was recovered and sent for post-mortem examination. Police said the autopsy report and the ongoing investigation will help establish the exact circumstances surrounding her death.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the police fraternity, with colleagues expressing shock at the sudden demise of the woman police officer.
