Paradip: The Indian Coast Guard has launched a search operation after a cargo vessel carrying iron ore from Odisha’s Paradip port to China reportedly lost contact after sailing around 200 nautical miles from the port on Saturday night.

According to preliminary information, the vessel, identified as Ocean-Winner, left Paradip at around 10.30 p.m. on August 20, carrying a consignment of iron ore bound for China.

There were reportedly 24 crew members on board, including 20 Chinese nationals, one Bangladeshi national and three nationals of Myanmar.

The vessel reportedly sailed for around 200 nautical miles before communication with it was lost.

After travelling around 200 nautical miles, the vessel was reportedly heading towards Visakhapatnam. Preliminary information suggests it may have crossed Odisha’s maritime boundary.

Following the loss of communication, a team of the Indian Coast Guard, along with a helicopter, reportedly left from Bhubaneswar to reach the area and assist in the search and rescue operation.

Authorities are currently working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the loss of contact with the vessel and trace its location.
