Nabarangpur: A 14-year-old Class VIII student of Batibeda Ashram School under Bhamini Gram Panchayat in Umerkote block of Odisha's Nabarangpur district was found hanging from a tree near the school late last night. The reason behind the death remains unclear, though it is suspected that she died by suicide.
The deceased was staying in the school's hostel and had returned to the institution from her home on June 25.
According to preliminary information, the student climbed over the hostel boundary wall during the night and was later found hanging from a tree about one kilometre from the school campus.
As there is no mobile network connectivity in the girl's village, some teachers travelled to the locality around 1 am to inform her family about the incident. Her family members and villagers immediately reached the school.
The student's father has lodged a complaint at Umerkote Police Station, requesting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his daughter's death and appropriate action.
The motive behind the incident is yet to be established. Police have launched an investigation, and officials said the exact circumstances leading to the student's death will be known only after the probe is completed.
