Bhubaneswar: The death toll of Odia workers in the incident of an ammonia gas leak at a seafood processing unit in Tamil Nadu has risen to 15 after another worker succumbed during treatment.
The deceased has been identified as Rohini Juang (23) of Rebana village in the Harichandanpur area in Keonjhar district. She had been undergoing treatment since the incident.
According to sources, four to five other injured workers are still undergoing treatment.
The mishap occurred on June 21 at a private seafood processing and export unit in Kannigaipair village near Periyapalayam in Tamil Nadu's Tiruvallur district.
Around 120 migrant workers from Odisha, Assam and Jharkhand were on duty when ammonia gas leaked inside the factory. The workers were exposed to toxic fumes, triggering breathing difficulties, dizziness and severe eye irritation. Several workers collapsed inside the premises and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
