Bhubaneswar: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has appointed altogether 10 senior IAS officers as Electoral Roll Observers to oversee the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Odisha.

Additional Chief Electoral Officer (CEO)-cum-Special Secretary to Odisha government, Sushanta Kumar Mishra, issued a directive in this regard today.

The Electoral Roll Observers will oversee the SIR work in three districts each. They have been asked to visit the districts assigned to them at least thrice during the SIR work.

Besides, the Electoral Roll Observers have been asked not to limit their visit to the district headquarters but to go some polling stations in the Assembly constituencies.

During the visits, the Electoral Roll Observers will convene a meeting of sitting MPs, MLAs and representatives of the political parties to hear their grievances/complaints and seek their active involvement in the SIR process.

Besides, the common people will be allowed to meet the Electoral Roll Observers in connection with the complaints and issues related to the SIR work. 

ECI to publish draft electoral rolls on July 5

The ECI has asked the Electoral Roll observers will personally scrutinize reports and justifications submitted by the District Electoral Officers (DEOs) in respect of Assembly Constituencies in the districts where deletion/addition is 1 per cent higher than the district average or more than 3 per cent in any Assembly Constituency.

Moreover, the Electoral Roll Observers have been asked to send detailed reports regarding the SIR work in the assigned districts to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) in Odisha.

The ECI will publish the draft electoral rolls for Odisha on July 5. The people will be allowed to submit their grievances/complaints with regard to the draft electoral rolls till August 4.

As per the ECI rules, new names can be added to the electoral rolls through Form-6 while names can be deleted by using Form 7. Any other corrections to the electoral rolls can be carried out through Form-8.
