Bargarh: A serious allegation has surfaced against the Niramaya medicine centre at the Bargarh Community Health Centre in Odisha, where an expired medicine was allegedly issued to a 15-year-old boy.

According to the allegations, Mukesh Sahu (15), son of Choban Sahu of Nilibandha Pada, had sustained a cut injury to his finger. Following consultation with a doctor, he was advised to collect the prescribed antibiotic, Cefpodoxime Proxetil, from the Niramaya medicine counter.

However, it is alleged that the medicine dispensed to the patient had already expired in May 2026. After consuming the medicine, the boy reportedly experienced dizziness and vomiting. The family then checked the medicine strip and found that its expiry date had already passed.

The incident has raised concerns about whether regular checks are being conducted to ensure the quality and validity of medicines stocked under the Niramaya scheme.

The family has demanded a thorough inquiry into the matter and action against those responsible. No official response from the health authorities was available at the time of filing this report.
