Bhubaneswar/Kataka: Family members of Chauliaganj Police Station Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Beauty Mohanty, who was found hanging at her residence, have alleged foul play behind her death.
The deceased officer’s elder brother, Santosh Kumar Mohanty, claimed she may have been murdered. He raised questions over a cloth mark found around her neck and pointed to black patches on her body as suspicious.
Santosh Kumar further stated there were no clear signs indicating suicide. He also alleged a man had entered the Chauliaganj Police Station a day earlier and engaged in a verbal altercation with the officer.
“My sister has been murdered. The truth must come out,” he said, demanding a re-post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, the Opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Saturday demanded a court-monitored inquiry by a neutral and independent agency to ensure a free, fair, and credible investigation into the officer’s death.
BJD spokesperson and media coordinator Lenin Mohanty said the incident has raised serious questions about the circumstances surrounding the death.
“The truth must emerge through a fair, impartial, and transparent investigation,” he stated.
Referring to the recent Balianta mob violence case in which a Constable lost his life, Lenin Mohanty added even police personnel entrusted with maintaining law and order are no longer safe. Such incidents, he said, have significantly eroded public confidence in the policing system.
