Bhubaneswar: The former legislators in Odisha have urged the state government for a hike in their pension, medical allowance and other benefits.

The Odisha Ex-MLA Council, an association of the former legislators, submitted a memorandum in this regard to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today.

In its memorandum, the association claimed that several former legislators in Odisha are suffering from age-related diseases, which require regular treatment.

“These ex-MLAs are facing financial hardships and they are unable to meet their medical expenses,” said the association.

According to the association, the Centre as well as the state government are increasing dearness allowance (DA) and other benefits to their employees and pension holders on regular basis by taking into consideration the rise in market prices. However, the ex-MLAs are getting consolidated amount since January 1, 2017, said the association.  

The association has urged the Chief Minister to implement the recommendation of the Advisory Committee of the Odisha Assembly and enhance the pension and other benefits for the former legislators in the state.
