Bhubaneswar: Bharatpur Police have arrested a former professor from West Bengal on charges of cyber harassment and circulation of morphed photographs of a student.
The accused, identified as Dr. Ajit Kumar Gupta (33), a resident of Hooghly district in West Bengal, was apprehended by Bharatpur Police following an investigation into a complaint lodged by a student.
According to police, Dr. Gupta, who was previously associated with a veterinary institution as a faculty member, allegedly developed a close relationship with the student under the pretext of acting as her guardian. He later subjected the complainant to prolonged harassment.
Police further said that the accused downloaded photographs from the student's social media accounts, digitally altered them and circulated the morphed images through social media platforms.
During the investigation, police examined witnesses, recorded statements and collected digital evidence. Relevant documents connected to the case were also seized.
Acting on specific information, a police team tracked down and arrested the accused from Studio Square in Bhubaneswar.
Police said further investigation into the case is underway.
