Kataka: Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday arrested Sarat Kumar Nayak, former Secretary of Anandpur Service Co-operative Society (SCS) under PACS Banki, in connection with the alleged misappropriation of society funds amounting to Rs 21.28 lakh.

According to Odisha Vigilance, an investigation found that Nayak had collected loan repayment amounts directly from several borrower members of PACS Banki. While he recorded the actual amounts collected in the daily transaction ledger (Day Book), he allegedly manipulated the official accounting registers by deliberately showing lower collection figures.

The Vigilance alleged that Nayak fabricated the collection records and siphoned off the difference between the actual amount collected and the amount reflected in the official registers for personal gain.

The alleged misappropriation amounted to Rs 21,28,058, causing financial loss to PACS Banki and the government exchequer, the anti-corruption agency said.

In connection with the case, Kataka Vigilance Police Station Case No. 29 dated August 10, 2026, has been registered against Nayak under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(a) of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, along with Sections 409, 467, 468, 471, and 477-A of the IPC.

Following his arrest, Nayak was being forwarded to the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Kataka, on Tuesday.

The Odisha Vigilance said further investigation into the alleged financial irregularities is underway.
