Bhubaneswar: Odisha may witness another spell of widespread rainfall later this month as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated the likely formation of a fresh low pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal.

According to the IMD's North Indian Ocean Extended Range Outlook for Cyclogenesis, an upper-air cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of West Bengal and Odisha towards the end of the first forecast week, which covers July 10 to July 16.

Under its influence, a low pressure area is expected to form over the same region during the first half of the second forecast week, between July 17 and July 23.

If the system develops as projected, it could bring another round of rainfall to Odisha, although the IMD has not yet issued details on the extent of its impact.

The forecast comes days after a low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal intensified into a depression earlier this month, triggering widespread rainfall across Odisha. The heavy rain caused a sharp rise in river water levels and led to flood-like conditions in several parts of the state.
