Brahmapur: In view of reports of fresh COVID-19 cases in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, authorities in Ganjam district have placed the local administration on high alert.

The Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), Ganjam, Bhabani Shankar Mishra in a letter to healthcare facilities, has directed them to strictly adhere to the revised guidelines issued by the Health and Family Welfare Department.

As per the directive, hospitals must ensure mandatory COVID-19 testing for patients presenting with Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) and conduct random testing for at least 5 per cent of patients with Influenza-Like Illness (ILI).

Healthcare institutions have also been instructed to assess and ensure the operational readiness of isolation wards, along with the availability of oxygen-supported beds and essential medical logistics.

Officials have been asked to keep oxygen plants, concentrators, and cylinders fully functional and in a state of readiness.

Frontline health workers, including ASHA and ANM staff, have been directed to monitor their respective areas for any unusual clustering of fever or respiratory cases. They will also sensitise the public on maintaining respiratory hygiene, seeking early medical attention if symptomatic, and avoiding panic.

The administration has emphasised the need to maintain adequate stock of essential medicines such as ORS, paracetamol, zinc, Vitamin A, respiratory stimulants, and azithromycin tablets.

Health officials have been instructed to closely monitor the situation and submit daily reports on SARI/ILI testing, infrastructure preparedness, and logistics to the District Public Health Unit.
