Bhubaneswar: A section of the Rushikulya river embankment near Goba in Odisha’s Ganjam district breached following continuous rainfall and a rise in the river’s water level due to Cyclone 'Arnab'.

Following the breach, river water has entered adjoining areas and was flowing over the Barang-Badamadhapur road. The breach has increased fears of flooding in the surrounding areas.

Continuous rainfall in Ganjam district due to the cyclone has led to a rise in the water levels of the Rushikulya and other rivers. The increased water flow weakened the embankment near Goba, resulting in the breach.

The administration and concerned departments are monitoring the situation and have initiated steps to repair the damaged embankment. Murram is being dumped at the site as part of the repair work.

Residents of nearby areas have been advised to remain alert and avoid going near the river in view of the rising water level and strong flow.

Chhatrapur MLA Krushna Chandra Nayak visited the affected site after learning about the incident and took stock of the situation. He advised the concerned officials to take immediate measures, expedite embankment repairs and speed up arrangements for draining the accumulated water.
