Chhatrapur: Seven livestock animals, including six sheep and a goat, died of electrocution after an electricity pole collapsed and a low-tension (LT) power line snapped amid strong winds and heavy rain triggered by Cyclone Arnab near Dubuli Chhak under Chhatrapur Municipality in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Thursday morning.
According to reports, a metal electricity pole near Dubuli Chhak collapsed due to the adverse weather conditions, causing the live power wire to fall onto the ground. The wire came into contact with the sheep and goat grazing nearby, killing all seven animals on the spot.
The deceased animals belonged to G. Dandapani Patra, a resident of Brahmaniapalli village under Chhatrapur block.
Following the incident, the electricity department disconnected the power supply and initiated repair work on the damaged pole and power line.
Meanwhile, Cyclone Arnab has triggered heavy rainfall across several parts of Ganjam district, leading to flooding, road connectivity disruptions and waterlogging in low-lying areas.
Soroda has been among the worst-affected areas, with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall reported over the past three days. The rising water level of the Rushikulya river has created a flood-like situation in Soroda town and nearby villages, inundating several areas and leaving residents stranded in waterlogged locations.
