Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Warning for several districts of Odisha, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall as a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify. The weather agency said the southwest monsoon remains active over the state.

According to the IMD, the low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal coasts is currently located over the northwest Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood. It is likely to become more marked during the next two days, leading to widespread rainfall across Odisha.

Red Warning for today

The IMD has forecasted isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places in Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri districts. A Red Warning has been issued for these districts.

An Orange Warning has been issued for Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Ganjam and Gajapati districts, where isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected.

A Yellow Warning has been issued for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri, Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sundargarh and Jharsuguda districts, with isolated heavy rainfall likely.

Red Warning for tomorrow

For Saturday, the IMD has issued a Red Warning for Sambalpur, Sonepur, Angul, Boudh and Kandhamal districts, where isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy falls is likely.

An Orange Warning has been issued for Keonjhar, Kataka, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi and Rayagada districts.

A Yellow Warning has been issued for Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, Puri, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Balangir and Bargarh districts.

Advisory for fishermen

The IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off the Odisha coast from July 3 to July 7 due to adverse weather conditions. It has also advised authorities to hoist Local Cautionary Signal No. III (LC-3) at Paradip and Dhamra ports.
