Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Warning for two Odisha districts and an Orange Warning for eight others, forecasting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places today.

According to the latest IMD bulletin, a low-pressure area over the North Bay of Bengal, off the West Bengal-Bangladesh coasts, persisted in the same region at 8.30 am on Wednesday.

The weather system is likely to become a well-marked low-pressure area over the same region within the next 12 hours. It is then expected to concentrate into a depression and move northwestwards across West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh coasts during the subsequent 24 hours.

Red Warning for Baleswar, Bhadrak

The IMD has forecasted extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places in Baleswar and Bhadrak districts, issuing a Red Warning for the two districts.

Orange Warning for eight districts

An Orange Warning has been issued for Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Dhenkanal.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in these districts.

Thunderstorm, gusty winds likely

A Yellow Warning has been issued for heavy rainfall in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Subarnapur, Boudh, Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh.

Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of up to 30-40 kmph are also likely at isolated places in Jajpur, Cuttack, Bargarh, Dhenkanal, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh.
