Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Warning for Koraput and Malkangiri districts as a low pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal coasts is expected to intensify over the next two to three days.

According to the IMD, the low pressure area has developed under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha coast. The weather system is likely to become more marked during the next two to three days.

For Thursday, the IMD has issued an Orange Warning for Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri districts, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places.

A Yellow Warning has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh districts, with heavy rainfall expected at isolated places.

For Friday, the IMD has upgraded the alert level for Koraput and Malkangiri to a Red Warning, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places.

An Orange Warning has also been issued for Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Rayagada and Gajapati districts, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely.

Meanwhile, a Yellow Warning has been sounded for Balasore, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh districts due to the possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated places.
