Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on Monday as a low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining regions is expected to move nearly northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal, north Odisha and Jharkhand during the next 24 hours.

According to the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) morning bulletin, the low-pressure area was located over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas of north Odisha, Jharkhand and the northwest Bay of Bengal at 5.30 am on August 24.

The weather system is likely to move nearly northwestwards during the next 24 hours, bringing increased rainfall activity to several districts of Odisha.

A yellow warning has also been issued for several other districts where heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places. These include Balasore, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam and Nayagarh.

The IMD has advised people in the districts under the warnings to remain alert, particularly in areas vulnerable to waterlogging and localised flooding due to intense rainfall.
