Bhubaneswar: At least four districts in Odisha may witness heavy to very heavy rainfall on July 30 (Thursday), said the IMD on Wednesday.

As per the IMD prediction, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur and Koraput on July 30. The MeT Department has issued an Orange warning for these four districts.

Besides, some places in Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Kandhamal, Rayagada and Malkangiri may witness heavy rainfall on Thursday, said the IMD regional centre here today while issuing a Yellow warning in this regard.

“The Deep Depression over central parts of Chhattisgarh and adjoining north interior Odisha moved westwards with a speed of 20 kmph during past six hours, and lay centred over the same region on July 29 (Wednesday).  It is very likely to continue to move nearly westwards across Chhattisgarh and east Madhya Pradesh during next 24 hours,” said the IMD.

Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Rajesh Prabhakar Patil, meanwhile, asked the administrations of the above said districts to keep the administrative machinery ready to face any eventuality.

The administrations have been asked to take proper steps to deal with flooding on roads and waterlogging in low lying areas.

Besides, the SRC has asked the districts to remain alert with regard to possible damage to vulnerable structures, standing crops and kutcha roads.

“The people are advised to keep watch on weather and take shelter during thunderstorm activity to protect themselves from lightning,” said the SRC.
