Bhubaneswar: A warder of Digapahandi Sub-Jail in Odisha’s Ganjam district was found hanging in his quarters on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Sibanand Swain. He had been transferred to Digapahandi Sub-Jail from a prison in Puri district around 15 days ago.
As per reports, Swain did not open the door of his quarters till 10 am today morning, causing suspicion among other warders of the prison.
The employees of the jail broke open a window of Swain’s quarters and found him hanging from the ceiling. They immediately informed the incident to police.
A team of the Patapur police in Ganjam rushed to the spot and seized the body before launching a probe into the incident. Sanakhemundi Tahsildar also reached the spot and talked to the employees of the prison.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the warder ended his life by hanging himself from the ceiling of his quarters with the help of a rope. “Domestic discord could be the reason behind the warder’s suicide. However, we are looking into all angles as part of our investigation,” said a police officer.
