Bhubaneswar: Gold and silver jewellery worth over Rs 50 lakh, allegedly stolen from a jewellery shop in Chhattisgarh, were recovered from Sorada area in Odisha’s Ganjam district, police said.

According to police, four persons from Sorada had allegedly stolen the ornaments from a jewellery shop in the Sitapur area of Chhattisgarh in July this year. Following information received from the Chhattisgarh Police, a special team was formed under the leadership of Aska SDPO Saurabh Ranjan Pradhan to trace the stolen ornaments.

The police team recovered around 300 grams of gold jewellery and 1 kilogram of silver ornaments from a slum in Sorada area.  

However, the accused persons managed to flee before the police could apprehend them. The police have intensified efforts to trace and arrest the accused, said the Aska SDPO.

“The recovery was made as part of a coordinated investigation based on information shared by the Chhattisgarh Police. Further investigation into the matter is underway,” he added.
