Kataka: A man died after allegedly being brutally assaulted by security personnel at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Odisha's Kataka, according to a complaint filed by his younger brother at the Malangabag police station.

The deceased has been identified as Srikanta Das. His younger brother, Binod Bihari Das, alleged that Srikanta was present on the SCB Medical College and Hospital premises on September 28, when he was cornered and severely beaten by hospital security personnel.

According to the complaint, Srikanta had consumed alcohol at the time of the incident.

Srikanta was subsequently admitted to SCB Hospital for treatment. However, his condition deteriorated, and he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment today.

The deceased's brother has sought strict legal action against those responsible. He has also urged police to identify and question the security guards, supervisors and hospital staff who were on duty when the incident occurred.

The complaint further sought preservation and seizure of CCTV footage from the hospital's entry and exit points, corridors and other relevant areas. It also requested seizure of medical records, recording of eyewitness statements and a post-mortem examination by a government medical board to establish the exact cause of death.

Meanwhile, the Superintendent of the SCB Medical College and Hospital said there was no justification for assaulting anyone inside a medical institution and assured that the hospital authorities would extend all necessary cooperation to the police during the investigation.
