Man killed as speeding SUV hits motorcycle on Bhubaneswar-Puri NH after hitting bull

Pipili: A 64-year-old man was killed in a road accident on Bhubaneswar-Puri National Highway near Pipili early Wednesday morning after a speeding SUV lost control and hit the motorcycle on which he was travelling.

The accident took place around 4 am. According to reports, the SUV was travelling from Puri direction towards Bhubaneswar when it first ran over a bull near Gudiapokhari. The bull died on the spot.

The vehicle then lost control near the Pipili toll plaza and hit a man riding a motorcycle. The man fell from the two-wheeler and died at the spot.

The deceased has been identified as Ashok Kumar Das. He had gone out to pluck flowers when the accident occurred.

On receiving information, Pipili police reached the spot and seized both vehicles involved in the accident. Police also rescued a youth who was travelling in the SUV as he was seriously injured. He was shifted to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar for treatment.

Police have started an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the accident.
