Rayagada (Odisha): A mysterious incident involving the deaths of a father-in-law and son-in-law, allegedly after falling from a train, has raised serious suspicion after their bodies were recovered from two different locations nearly 70 kilometres apart.
The deceased have been identified as Sudam Nayak (60), a resident of Kikia village under Kesinga police limits in Kalahandi district, and his father-in-law Lingaraj Saha (80), from Luthurbandh village under Titilagarh police limits in Balangir district.
Bodies found at two different locations
According to reports, one body was recovered near the railway tracks close to Rayagada railway station, while the other was found near Dahikhal, around 70 km away. The unusual distance between the two recovery sites has raised doubts over the circumstances of their deaths.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Rayagada recovered the bodies and, after post-mortem examination on Friday evening, handed them over to the family members.
Family alleges planned murder despite no known enmity
Family members have strongly alleged that the deaths were not accidental but a result of a planned murder. They claim the two had no known disputes or enmity with anyone, making the incident even more puzzling.
“The bodies being found in two separate locations raises serious suspicion. We believe they have been murdered,” a family member stated.
Travel history and investigation
The duo had reportedly travelled to Visakhapatnam for medical treatment and were returning home when the incident occurred. It remains unclear how they fell from the train and ended up at two distant locations.
Police have launched a detailed investigation to ascertain whether the deaths were accidental or involved foul play. Officials said all angles, including possible homicide, are being examined.
Family members have assured full cooperation with the authorities as the probe continues.
