Baripada: An alleged case of administrative negligence has come to light at the Thakurmunda Community Health Centre (CHC) in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, where the body of a 40-year-old man remained inside the hospital for more than 36 hours without being sent for post-mortem.

The deceased has been identified as Shyam Marndi, a resident of Tentala village in Bahalda area.

According to information, Shyam was admitted to the Thakurmunda CHC at around 2 pm on October 4. While undergoing treatment, he got up from his bed in the evening to urinate. Instead of going to the bathroom, he was walking down a ramp when he slipped and fell.

His wife, Sushila Marndi, and a security guard lifted him and took him back to the bed. Shyam died at around 5.30 pm while undergoing treatment.

The incident took an unusual turn after his death as Sushila reportedly left the hospital the following morning with her child, leaving the body at the health centre.

Despite the passage of more than 36 hours, the body was neither taken for post-mortem nor removed from the hospital.

After being informed about the matter, police reached the hospital and began an investigation. Police later managed to trace Shyam's family and said his relatives were expected to arrive at the hospital on Tuesday.
