Keonjhar: A girl was allegedly kidnapped, raped, and later attacked in an attempt to kill her by a relative in Odisha's Keonjhar district on Friday. The accused was overpowered by locals and handed over to the police. The incident took place in the Raigoda area under Sadar police limits in Banspal block.

According to preliminary information, the girl was abducted in a truck by her relative, who works as a truck driver. He took her to a secluded spot at Raigoda, where he raped her.

The accused then allegedly attempted to kill the girl by attacking her with a stone. Her cries for help alerted passersby, who rushed to the spot and rescued her in a critical condition from the accused.

The locals nabbed the accused, thrashed him, and later handed him over to the police. The injured girl was shifted to a hospital by ambulance for treatment.

Police from the Shuakati outpost reached the spot and detained the accused.

The incident sparked tension in the area, with locals blocking the Raigoda-Rangadihi road in protest. The Sadar police have launched an investigation into the case.
