Berhampur: Two miscreants allegedly assaulted a man and his fiancée in the busy Giri Market area of Odisha's Berhampur on Monday evening. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

According to reports, the incident took place around 9 pm when the young man, Umesh Ratha of Gosaninuagaon, and his fiancée Gayatri had gone to a roadside food stall. At that time, two youths armed with hockey sticks and wooden sticks reached the spot and launched a brutal attack on him.

The victim reportedly fell to the ground and screamed for help while Gayatri desperately tried to save him. However, the attackers allegedly continued assaulting both of them mercilessly.

Eyewitnesses said one of the attackers repeatedly struck the young man on his head and back while the other targeted his legs. Despite the assault taking place in a public place, no one reportedly intervened or attempted to rescue the victims.

Both were later admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here for treatment.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident. Police said the accused persons have already been identified, and raids are being conducted at multiple locations to arrest them.
