Bhubaneswar: A person who had sustained critical injuries in the firecracker explosion in Odisha’s Nayagarh district on Friday succumbed at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Bapi Nayak. He succumbed to his injuries while being treated at the premier health institute, reports said.

Nayak and five others were critically injured in an explosion while making firecrackers at Korada village under Nuagaon police limits in Nayagarh on Friday.

As per reports, Nayak and others were making firecrackers for the celebration of ‘Lanka Podi’ festival in the locality.

The explosion took place around the noon, causing panic among locals.

On being informed, the emergency responders, including the Fire Brigade personnel, reached the spot and rescued the injured persons.

The injured were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Nayak had been brought to the AIIMS-Bhubaneswar after his condition deteriorated.
