Bhuban: In a shocking incident reported from Dhenkanal district, a neighbour allegedly poured hot tea on a seven-year-old girl after she asked for food.

The incident took place in Nahora Sahi of Ward No. 7 under the Bhuban NAC area.

According to reports, the minor girl, identified as Jhansirani Behera (7), daughter of Khiridhar Behera, had approached her neighbour, identified as Mama Khatua, asking for something to eat. Enraged over the request, the accused allegedly threw hot tea on the child, causing burn injuries.

When the victim’s elder sister, Lakshmipriya Behera (9), protested against the act, the accused allegedly assaulted her as well, leaving her injured.

A video showing the injured minor girl writhing in pain on the road has reportedly gone viral on social media, drawing outrage among locals.

After learning about the incident, local councillor Narendra Sahu reached the spot and admitted both sisters to the Bhuban Community Health Centre for treatment.

Sources said the girls’ mother had reportedly left the family long ago, while their father, a daily wage labourer, was away from home for work at the time of the incident.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
