New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: In connection with the Sundarpada bomb blast that occurred in January this year, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday conducted searches at three locations in Bhubaneswar.

According to official sources, the locations were identified based on detailed analysis of evidence collected from an accused already arrested in the case, along with other investigative findings.

The case pertains to an explosion on January 27 in Azad Nagar Colony, Sundarpada, where a bomb accidentally detonated while being assembled by four individuals on the rooftop of a four-storey building. Of the four persons severely injured in the blast, two later succumbed to their injuries.

Sources said the searches were aimed at identifying the source of explosive materials and other components used in the bomb-making process, as well as uncovering the intended use of the explosives. Investigators are also examining the funding trail linked to the procurement of these materials.

During the searches in case RC-01/2026/NIA/BBSR, officials seized several digital devices and other incriminating materials, which have been sent for forensic examination.

The case was initially registered at Airfield Police Station, Bhubaneswar, and was taken over by the NIA in April 2026.

Further investigation is underway to identify others involved in the incident.
