Kataka: The post-mortem examination of Chauliaganj Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Beauty Mohanty, who was found dead at her government quarters in Cuttack, has confirmed that she died due to asphyxia caused by hanging, Kataka (Cuttack) Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo said on Tuesday.

Speaking to mediapersons, the DCP said the autopsy report found no external injury marks on Mohanty's body, and there is no evidence of foul play at this stage. However, he added that the investigation remains open and police are awaiting the viscera examination report and expert opinions before drawing any final conclusions.

"We have received the post-mortem report, which confirms death due to asphyxia. There are no external injuries on the body, and no evidence suggesting foul play so far. Even then, we will seek expert opinion and wait for the viscera report," Dnyandeo said.

The DCP said investigators are questioning Mohanty's family members, colleagues posted at the Chauliaganj police station and other acquaintances to piece together the circumstances leading to her death.

Police are also examining her digital records. Mohanty's mobile phones were found locked and have been sent to the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) in Bhubaneswar for forensic analysis. Experts are expected to retrieve data from the devices within the next two to three days.

"The phones are locked, and experts will access them and provide us with all relevant information. We expect to receive the data within two to three days," the DCP said.

Investigators are also analysing her WhatsApp chats, social media conversations, laptop and bank account details. The police will verify the identity of the person with whom Mohanty had her last phone conversation as part of the probe.

Dnyandeo said the investigation is being conducted by a special team comprising two Inspectors-in-Charge, an SP-rank officer and an Additional DCP. He confirmed that no one has been detained or arrested in connection with the case so far.

Beauty Mohanty, who had taken charge as the IIC of Chauliaganj police station around two months ago following her transfer, was found hanging in her government quarters on the morning of July 4. Police are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
